This double-drabble was a gift to me from my wondeful beta, Surreysmum, written early after she started her beta work for me in last August. I asked her to wait with posting it until such a time in the story when I had told the tale how the relationship between Aragorn and Legolas came about. Instead, she asked me to post it myself when I thought the time was right. Which I will gladly do now!! Thank you, Surreysmum, you are the best! (((hugs)))

So here it is: a powerful little AU to my AU, written by the very talented and wonderful Surreysmum, and operating under the question: what if Aragorn were the exact opposite of a sadist, but caught in the same circumstances?

I hope you will be as stunned by her vision as I was!

Mercy
double-drabble, 200 words (without headline and signature)
Author: Surreysmum (gifted to Aislynn)
Pairing: Aragorn/Legolas
Rating: NC-17, very strictly adult.
Warnings: BDSM
Disclaimer: LOTR and its characters belong to J.R.R. Tolkien. They are just borrowed here. No profit made, no infringement intended.
Feedback: Welcome. Though all praise belongs to the author of this little jewel!
Summary: AU, set in the Mael-Gûl-Universe. What if Aragorn were the exact opposite of a sadist, but caught in the same circumstances?

Double Drabble - Mercy

I wince as the flail bites across his back again, lines crossing painful lines, blood starting. I know my bonds will not yield, yet I struggle. Since that first time, when I fought him hard, I am not allowed to interfere. "Estel!" I hiss. He ignores me and swings the vicious thing across his other shoulder. Merciless.

In public I am his slave, kneeling, serving, silent, by decree. In private, too, their tyranny intrudes, an evil spell making my life dependent upon his violation. It would be monstrous did it not so exactly coincide with my desires.

In one thing he is adamant. The instruments of abuse they have supplied for me he applies only to himself. Every night he does penance for my subservience, my humiliation. For his enjoyment. For his failure to protect me. So much penance, and no absolution.

He drops the whip and turns to me, breath sobbing, and we acknowledge with wary glances the other truth - our bodies' truth - standing hard and parallel between us. And still he hesitates to take what is freely his.

At last it comes to me where mercy lies. "Next time," I say gently, "let me do it."

Written by Surreysmum, August 2005, and gifted to Aislynn Crowdaughter (thank you again!);
posted by Aislynn March 2006 with Surreysmum's permission.

Agony and Ecstasy!
*thud* (sound of jaw hitting keyboard) Lovely POV and what a fabulous twist! Deliberate, yet delicate, your words invade the brain and resonate! "our bodies' truth - standing hard and parallel between us" *breathless* And the last sentence "--- let me do it" *sob* Thank you Aislynn and Surreysmum, you are the best team ever

*shuffles feet* errrrr, Aislynn, I owe you some FB! --- I will get to it --- but let me say that the most recent "memories" chapter was *intensely* satisfying with revelations of how the relationship evolved --- and the tragedy of good intentions. *gulp* ((grin)) Like they say, "no good deed goes unpunished!" Aieee. Well done and thank you for continued fine work! <3<3<3<3 and kisses. ANA

Re: Agony and Ecstasy!
Thanks, Ana - but if there is any merit in my drabble, it is only because Aislynn's story seized so strongly on my imagination.

And yes, I think we make a very good team. :)

Re: Agony and Ecstasy!
Yes, it is powerful, isn't it? And imagine how stunned I was when I first received it, because while *I* knew where the story was going at the time, already, *Surreysmum* did not yet, and still I felt that her vision would have been a real possibility even in my fic had things gone just a little differently. And that is why I asked her to delay posting it, so I could tell my tale to the point where it is now. Of course, the last three pages of my latest chapter I had written, basically, last August before I received this Drabble!

I stick to my version of the story, but I adore the dignity of both Aragorn and Legolas in *this* AU vision of it, and I adore it even more for that!

I am so very glad Surreysmum offered to beta for me!

About te review - I love your comments, and would be glad to receive them again. But even your short note here just made my day! Thank you! I am glad you enjoy my stuff. And Aragorn's gesture was so very much Araggorn - and at the same time so tragically, nobly foolish! I thought it fitting that he should do such a thing, when he finally thought that Elronmd could not go back anymore - never realizing that with his very noble act he made things even worse and played more into Elrond's wishes than the evil Elf-Lord could ever have dreamed.

Poor Elrond. He got the role of the baddy in this fic. Somebody had to. And he does stern and evil so well (movieverse, that is).

If only we could convince surreysmum that she is as fantastic and powerful a writer as we know she is! Re-reading this after the revelations of your most recent chapters makes it even more evocative.

Oooh, oooh. Another side to the tale! Wonderfully told, with twists and turns only an insider would see.

Thank you.

Yes, and you know, the most stunning thing is that Surreysmum wrote this and sent it to me originally last year in August, shortly after she started to beta Mael-Gul. At that time, I had already written the final part of my most recent chapter, the part that reveals how Legolas and Aragorn ended where they are in my story - but she did not know that part, or what I planned to do, yet. And yet this drabble is a stunning vision of what could have happened, had things in my story gone but a little different. I love it the more for that.
